Adult Therapy

  • The therapeutic interventions we provide follow a number of evidence based approaches to provide the most appropriate intervention for each individual. Drawing on expertise from the worlds of trauma-focused psychotherapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Sensory Integration and Occupational Therapy.
Research has shown that working with movement and the body is key in healing trauma and can be highly beneficial for anxiety, depression, stress and sensory based problems; as it supports the restoration of balance in the nervous system and helps bring about long term healing (Bessel Van der Kolk, 2015) .
Working with the sensory and motor systems also provides a new array of strategies to the standard mental health therapy repertoire. Approaches that focus on regulating the nervous system help clients develop greater tolerance to everyday stressors and build their overall resilience.
    Trauma / PTSD
We particularly specialise in working with trauma, and have many years experience of working with survivors of domestic abuse. Trauma can be related to an acute life threatening event or the result of cumulative life stressors - both types of stress can lead to difficulties in daily life and create reduced resilience - see our trauma blogs.
Many things can lead to post traumatic symptoms, including:
    • War
    • Assaults of any kind
    • Accidents
    • Traumatic brain injury
    • Medical procedures
    • Emotional abuse
    • Job loss
    • Bereavement
    • Birth trauma
    • Debilitating stress of ongoing relational conflict
    • Sport injuries
    • Bullying
    • Divorce or separation
    • Natural disasters
    Main Room
We have a lovely spacious room set up especially for movement and you will be encourage to explore different movement techniques to help regulate your nervous system - the goal of our therapeutic approaches is supporting clients to develop a greater tolerance for difficult body sensations and suppressed emotions.
